Job Title: Dog daycare assistant

Job Type: Full-time, Temporary to Permanent

Hours: 40 hours over 5 days. Shifts per day are 8 hours plus a daily 1-hour unpaid break.

Salary: £9.30 per hour

Schedule:

  • Shifts between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday.

Key Activities 

  • Daily care, watering, feeding, cleaning, hygiene and exercise of dogs, supervision of animal handling, enrichment activities and prevention of outbreaks and transmission of disease.

  • On-going assessment, in conjunction with other staff, of dogs within the daycare with respect to their health, welfare, general condition and suitability for daycare. Drawing attention of superiors to dogs not considered to be daycare suitable.

  • Regular inspection of all equipment within the facility, with early reporting of any defects or deficiencies found, also assisting with stock control of equipment, feeding and cleaning supplies. Ensure the facility and surroundings are maintained in a tidy and presentable standard and secure at all times.

  • To undertake other duties as required by the Manager.

While at work all staff are required to: 

  • Take care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts and omissions.

  • Co-operate with Furry Tails policies and procedures for health and safety

Knowledge, skill and experience: 

Education qualifications:

  • Good general standard of education

  • Preferred - Ofqual Regulated Level 3 Professional Day Care and Boarding

 

Professional/Technical Qualifications/Skills: 

  • Great customer care skills

  • Great communication skills

  • Good administrative skills

  • Positive reinforcement approach to animal welfare and dog training. 

Experience: 

  • Must have hands on experience of working with dogs in a paid or voluntary position.

Job Content: 

  • Work is assigned by the Manager.

  • Work is carried out within general guidelines of the company.

  • Work is assessed through regular one to one meetings, team meetings and quarterly supervisions with the Manager.

  • The post holder is part of front-line staff providing care for dogs, maintaining good customer relations and projecting a professional image for the company.

Additional Information: 

  • The post holder must be able to work effectively unsupervised and as part of a team.

  • The post holder must have excellent time-keeping skills.

  • The post holder must be confident in dealing with difficult dogs and all breeds of dog.

  • Post holders need to be aware that the role is physically challenging and demanding with early starts in all weathers.
