Teen
Tails Course

Finding your feet through the teenage stage!

Has your dog’s recall disappeared? Are walks becoming a tug of war, or does it feel as though the training you worked so hard on has suddenly been forgotten? Life with an adolescent dog can feel confusing and frustrating, especially when familiar challenges return and new ones appear.

Our Teen Tails Course helps you understand your dog’s changing needs and keep building your relationship through this stage. Over four weeks, we’ll revisit essential skills, work through everyday challenges and help you feel more confident about supporting your teenage dog.

What Is Adolescence?

Adolescence is the transition between puppyhood and adulthood. As your dog develops, you may notice changes in their focus, confidence and responses to the world around them. Things they once found easy can become more challenging, and distractions may suddenly feel much more exciting.

Understanding these changes can help you respond with patience and realistic expectations. Teen Tails gives you practical ways to support your dog while strengthening the foundations of their training.

Other questions we will cover:

  • Why has my dog stopped coming back when called?

  • He used to know his training. Why is he ignoring me now?

  • Why has my dog started barking or lunging at other dogs?

  • Why is my once-confident dog suddenly scared of things?

  • How do I stop lead pulling that’s got worse?

  • Why is he jumping up and mouthing again?

  • When should I neuter or spay, and will it calm him down?

  • Why is my dog growling over food, toys or furniture?

  • Why is she chewing and destroying things again?

  • When will this phase end, and do I need professional help?

Who is the
course for?

This course is for dogs aged 5 months to 2 years who have already completed basic training equivalent to our Tiny to Terrific Tails course.

It’s a chance to build on what your dog already knows, refresh skills that have become less reliable and find ways to reconnect when listening feels difficult.

Teen Tails runs over four weeks, with a maximum of five dogs per class. Our small group gives you space to practise and receive guidance with your dog.

We combine practical training with clear explanations of adolescent behaviour, helping you understand both what to practise and why it matters. You’ll work on useful skills to continue developing together at home and out on walks.

Throughout the course,
we will cover:

🩷 Adolescent basics: refreshing essential skills and building consistency

🩷 Impulse control: practising waiting and responding thoughtfully around distractions

🩷 Recall: strengthening your dog’s motivation to come back when called

🩷 Loose lead walking: developing more comfortable, connected walks

🩷 Focus, listening and reconnection: making it easier for your dog to engage with you

Our
Training Philosophy

The teenage stage calls for patience, consistency and an understanding of the dog in front of you. We use positive, reward-based training to help you build useful skills and a relationship you can both rely on.

Our aim is to help you understand your dog, recognise their progress and feel more confident working through challenges together.
